Rules

1. Wait for the tournament seedings to be announced. THEN, SPRING INTO ACTION!

2. From the field of 64, you CHOOSE 12 TEAMS. These are your teams for the entire tournament. Each time one of your teams wins, you receive POINTS (point chart below). If one of your teams wins as an underdog, you will receive many more points than you would if your highly ranked favorite spanks a bunch of losers. So there is STRATEGY to picking your teams. RULE: THE COMBINED SEEDING OF YOUR 12 TEAMS MUST EQUAL 84 OR MORE. This forces us all to pick some underdogs and pull for them.

3. You must register and submit your 12 teams by Wednesday, March 14, 2011 10:00 pm PACIFIC. Late picks will not be accepted – it’s automated, so there can be NO EXCEPTIONS.

4. The entry fee is $20.91 to offset the merchant charges. We have been asked by that merchant to remove its name from our website.

5. We will payout the top 10 finishers. 1st - 50%, 2nd 16%, 3rd - 12%, 4th 6%, 5th - 5%, 6th - 4%, 7th - 3%, 8th - 2%, 9th - 1%, and 10th - 1%. 100% of the entry fees will be paid-out in winnings.

Scoring Chart

Example

If a # 11 seed beats a # 6 seed, the team receives 21 points. If the 6 beats the 11, then it's only worth 11 points.

If a # 13 beats a # 4, it's worth 25 points. If the 4 beats the 13, it's only worth 7 points.

Here's another way to calculate. For any given game you can take the winning teams seed, subtract the losing teams seed and add 16.

Bonus Points

First Round winning teams receive 1 bonus point each for the win.

Second Round winners receive 2 bonus points each for the win.

Third Round winners (Sweet Sixteen) receive 4 bonus points each for the win.

Fourth Round winners (Elite Eight) receive 8 bonus points each for the win.

Fifth Round winners (Semi-Finals) receive 16 bonus points each for the win.

The NCAA Champion receives 32 more bonus points!

...some interesting tid-bits

The winner always picks at least two of the final four teams and the ultimate national champ.

The winner always selects a few upstart teams that survive a few rounds inexplicably.

Last year, with a record number of participants, our winner had 509 points. Still, the ultimate picks would have garnered 669 points and the 12 teams’ combined seeds would have been 94. Food for thought.

The standings change dramatically from one round to the next. Don’t ever think you’re out. And don’t ever think you’ve got it locked up.
